"Why Mats Hummels can be a good signing for Manchester United"

During the early stage of our 2014-15 English Premier League season, we managed to secure only 13 points from 10 matches. And it was our worst start to a season since 1986. 3 defeats, 4 draws and only 3 wins. Well, the 3 defeats were not that easy win for our opponents rather we threw away the games we should have won, and especially the game against Leicester City. We were leading 3-1 and suddenly we got defeated with the scoreline 3-5 as we let in some easy goals. Not only this game, throughout the season, we were not very strong and organized with our defending.

Anyway, I guessed it is not that bad by the end of the season as we secured the champions league spot by virtue of finishing 4th in the table points position. This summer transfer window, I believed Mats Hummels should be our priority transfer target as we need an experience and a proven center-back. Although it has been reported in the news that Borussia Dortmund will not accept any offer for Mats Hummels. However, I still believed if our club management can offer a substantial amount to Dortmund, they may be compelled to accept the offer. After all Hummels has only two years left on his current contract.

Guys, do you think the move will materialise? For me, I'm very optimistic and it is a 'yes'. And if the transfer materialized, the three following points can be probable advantage for our team benefits:

1. We know that Van Gaal prefer playing with 3 defenders in the formation of 3-5-2. I'm don't think he will just abandon the formation he wanted for the team to play and find success. You know, it is kind of a philosophy for him and he was unable to impart the philosophy with our present defenders.

Therefore, signing Hummels will bring in the much needed experience, the tactical awareness and the leadership to organized defense as one. The ideal backline can be Smalling, Hummels and Rojos. Do you think the three of them will gel and form a strong back-line?

2. Ashley Young and Luke Shaw can be utilize as attacking full-backs. Both of them are very good with their pace and they can also track back easily for defending. It will give us the edge on the counter attack as well as from the width play.

3. Blind can play as the central midfield role shielding the three defenders. Angel Di Maria and Herrera as left and right midfielders respectively and they can easily interchange their role when needed. And don't forget Fellaini, he can play behind our main striker Wayne Rooney or in defensive midfield role whenever it is required.

Although Michael Carrick is one of our very important player, and I'd easily swap Daley Blind for him but his injury is still a concern for me. Beside, he is over 30 and I rather prefer Van Gaal to start Blind and Carrick coming on as substitute for balance and experience. The next season is going to be very hectic as we are going to be challenging for every competitions, the EPL, the Champions League, the Capital One cup and the FA cup. So, I'm sure Carrick as well as the other players will get the fair amount of game time.

My opinion in this blog is just a fair assumption after analysing our 2014-15 season. And my ideal starting eleven for our 2015-16 season will be De Gea(if he stays) or Valdes, Rojo, Hummels, Smalling, Shaw, Young, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Fellaini, and Wayne Rooney. The substitutes are Valdes (if De Gea stays), Carrick, Januzaj, van Persie, Jones, McNair, Mata, Wilson. What do you think of the starting eleven? And do you think our club management go for Hummels at any cost?

Please write your opinion and suggestion in the comment section below. Thank you.

"How to let it(David De Gea) GO"

Good morning!

Every day, I typed in the name "David De Gea" on my laptop web browser hoping for a news he has signed the contract extension offer. Well, I'm also no different from the other fanatic fans of Manchester United and we always want our best player to stay. After all, this football club matters a lot to me and to all the fans of Manchester United world wide; and I wish David had reciprocate the same in January by signing the contract extension offer. But now, I have to let go of this fear as well as the melancholy feeling of losing him, and probably give up the hope of him signing the contract extension offer. I guess he is definitely leaving and Real Madrid is waiting for the right time to announce the signing.

Now that I'm convinced David De Gea leaving us, I've nothing bad or ill feelings about him exccept I wish him the best for his future. He has given us a solid performance for two years although the legend title is still beyond the reach. Like we have always done, we will keep on moving forward and we can certainly replace him with another world class goalkeeper. In fact, we already have Victor Valdes who is 32 years old. Don't forget that Edwin van der Sar was 34 years old when he was signed on 2005 summer transfer window. I meant the age factor is not an issue for Victor Valdes and he is also a very experienced goalkeeper who has won many trophies with Barcelona and Spain. Probably, he can still play for another 3-4 seasons or even more. In the meantime, the scouting team can definitely have the headstart looking for the long term replacement for Victor Valdes.

The club management need to make sure De Gea market value is met by Real Madrid. Although it is quiet tricky as De Gea current deal will expire after 12 months. Let us try considering this scenario, do you thing Real Madrid really want to sign De Gea this summer? For me, it is a yes. They really want to sign him because they have recently sacked their manager Carlo Ancelotti and they will to put up a very good 'show' like a circus to appease their insatiable fans. Therefore, they will need to sign and parade a world class player in De Gea including a new manager in front of major news media globally. Obviously, it will be a good news for the Real Madrid fans who are always jeering Casillas, their own hero! For Fiorentino Perez, it's all business and signing De Gea is a good deal to maintain the club revenue as they did not win any trophy in the recently concluded season. Considering this scenario, our club management can have a small advantage over Real Madrid in negotiation of transfer.

Leaving aside David De Gea transfer speculation, the football news section in most of the major news online have been unfortunately more about the FIFA bribing controversy and the arrest of 9 FIFA officials including 5 corporate executives. This is an absolute disgrace from FIFA and for bringing disrepute to the most popular sport on Earth. The subsequent resignation of Sepp Blatter is blessing in disguise for FIFA. In my opinion, he is a disgrace to football and he should have resign long ago. I'm sure the pressure from the UEFA played a role in Blatter resignation. I just hope FIFA clean up their messes as soon as possible before bringing the sport to more disrepute.

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Hull City, 0-0, 24 May 2015”

United XI: Valdes, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Blind, Mata, Ander Herrera, Di Maria, Young, Rooney. Subs: Januzaj, Lindegaard, van Persie, Fellaini, McNair, Blackett, Wilson.

Hull City XI: Harper, Chester, Dawson, McShane, Elmohamady, Meyler, Huddlestone, Quinn, Brady, N’Doye, Jelavic. Subs: McGregor, Rosenior, Bruce, Hernandez, Sagbo, Aluko, Robertson.

Really! A terrible performance from United again! Obviously, United has already qualified for the Champions league next season by virtue of winning the 4th position in the final table points standing. But Manchester United is neither about just securing a spot in Champions league nor playing as a second fiddle team in Premier league. No doubt, the club has achieved its target for the current season concluded today. In my opinion, Manchester United 2014-15 season is like a big budget Hollywood movie securing a lukewarm success in the box office (Say for example: 175 millions pound box office collection against 150 millions pound movie budget).

The team performance throughout the season suggest the club needs to revamp summer spending efficiently. The club also needs to improve the scouting program because not a single players from the academy have make an instant impact in a game and helping the team win when needed. I believed McNair seems to be the only promising player from the academy who has grabbed the opportunity provided.

And today, the last match of the season, the performance from the players was like a painful stab on your back after supporting throughout the season ups and downs. And literally, it was like watching your favorite team playing like a relegated team with no desire to win at any cost and rather than a team with potential to fight for the title next season. The final scoreline of 0-0 even make it worse, and I thought the fans really deserve a win with style and swagger so the message "Manchester United will be back in the title race next season" can be conveyed to rival teams. While it is pity Hull City was relegated despite their players trying their best to win the match.

Victor Valdes starts in the match for the first time as United goalkeeper with Angel Di Maria and Rooney also in the starting line-up. The first half from United was an utter disappointment backed by the mistimed passes, miscued, unconfident style of play, and nervy defending. Believe it or not! There was no single shot on target as well as any clear chances created until the cross coming from Ashley Young in the 44th minutes which was missed by Herrera. Although Rooney attempt from outside the box in the 3rd minute unfortunately clips the bar. Adding to the misery of United 1st half, Angel Di Maria was injured and replaced by Adnan Januzaj in the 22nd minutes.

I actually thought 'what a howler from Valdes in the 18 minutes.' Thank God! The linemen raised up the flag for Offside position. But what a great save from him in the 19th minutes of Hull City's Elmohamady powerful header. Although Valdes hasn't played first team football for the past 14 months, the brilliant save from him proved he is still a good goalkeeper. Even if David De Gea signs for Real Madrid in the upcoming summer window, Victor Valdes can easily fill up the No.1 goalkeeper spot. Also, in the 74th minutes of the game, he produced another brilliant save which should've been a goal for Hull City. Valdes only needs to improve with his decision in handling cross and corner as he is now playing in Premier league.

Defending is the still a weak spot for United and it was quiet awful throughout the entire 90 minutes of the game. Smalling and Jones partnership in defense doesn't offer much except both of them will force you to bite your fingers nail. Although the match final scoreline is 0-0, they still need to up their style of defending. Valencia is a player who always perform in every match in the meter of 6 out 10 as right-back. His counter-part Marcos Rojo performance from the left-back position was good but not solid good enough. In the midfield area, it seems Blind is not yet ready to play in the role of Michael Carrick although he is still a good midfield player. Although the combination of Mata and Herrera is fine but the defensive skills of Mata is quiet awful and it was evident from his performance today.

Anyway, Mata was replaced by James Wilson in the 72nd minutes. Ashley Young also had a quiet day but his consistency throughout the season is commendable and he was replaced by Fellaini in the 58th minutes. Unfortunately, a direct red card for Fellaini in the 77th minutes was an absolute blow for United when Hull City was pressing hard to score.

Adnan Januzaj is the reason why United needs to improve the scouting program. I still don't get it why he is revered as promising and very talented player coming through the academy. No hard feeling but for the entire season, he hasn't produced any mind-blowing individual match winning performance despite the opportunity provided to him. United always give chance to youth and it will never change as it is United tradition. However, the club needs to improve its scouting program so the right youth players can be developed and showcased his talent when the opportunity is provided.

Well, I'm rating the team performance two out of five. As the current season is over today, please visit the site: http://www.manutd.com/en/Tour2015 to find our more information of the upcoming Manchester United summer tour to United States of America.

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Arsenal, 1-1, 17 May 2015”

United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Mata, Blind, Herrera, Young, Fellaini, Falcao.

United subs: Valdes, Blackett, McNair, Di Maria, Januzaj, van Persie, Wilson.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Alexis, Giroud.

Arsenal subs: Szczesny, Gibbs, Gabriel, Flamini, Rosicky, Wilshere, Walcott.

It is definitely an improvement in terms of table position for Manchester United comparing to last season under David Moyes. But the display from the team is rather disheartening as the final scoreline is 1-1. Chris Smalling wore the captain armband for the first time in his United's career in the absence of regular captain Wayne Rooney and deputy Carrick. Despite the good start in the first half and leading by 1-0 with a goal from Herrera in the 29th minutes, the performance from the team in the second half wasn't good enough or unlucky to hold on with the lead. The stand-out player from the match is the consistency and performance of Ashley Young although the sparkling combination of Herrera and Mata is worth mentioning. Fellaini does what he does best, and he was also involved in the build-up leading to the goal scored by Herrera.

What a sad ending to Falcao United career when he was taken off in the 60th minutes for Van Persie! Although he will be fondly remembered by the fans but it just did not penned out the way he would have wanted to be. And I won't blame him for not scoring enough despite his huge wage during his loan stay for a season. It is just that his entry into English football was kind of late and his comeback from the serious knee injury doesn't let him be the fearsome striker he used to be. He would have loved to score judging by the way he started the match but the team style of play was totally not in sync with his movement. Unfortunately, his pace was also slow for a traditional number 9 striker and therefore, the chances of him scoring keeps on diminishing as the match progress on. It was a nice standing ovation from the crowd when he was substituted. At least, the fans will fondly and proudly say Falcao used to play for United.

The main problem with the match is the lack of experience defender and a goal scoring striker. Midfield is alright as of now but it should be OK when Michael Carrick returns although it won't do no harm if United can bring in Vidal or Strootman in the upcoming summer window. The understanding and combination between Mata and Herrera is an advantage for the team. Their understanding was quiet noticeable during the match especially in the first half and the lovely exchanges of one touch football in the 48the minutes of second half was an absolute delight. Fellaini in the starting line-up is like United playing with 12 players because he such a threat to opponent penalty area. When Herrera scored the goal in the first half unmarked with the cross from Young, two players of Arsenal were marking Fellaini instead of one.

In the defence area, Smalling, day by day is transforming into a reliable centre back for United but his partner Jones is rather falling in the company of Johny Evans. In fact, there were two instances of Jones which could have altered the result in favor of Arsenal. That is why; United must pursue Matt Hummels at any cost in the upcoming summer window. Valencia, effectively managed to keep Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez ineffective during the course of the match. Although his pace is quiet terrifying but his final cross is the weak link to his play. I hope he turns up good with his crossing as his full back position in the team will be up for competition in the new season. I'm not sure why Marcos Rojo was replaced by Tyler Blackett in the 73rd minutes. After all Marcos Rojo was doing his job well. Unfortunately, the replacement produced the own goal by Blackett from the shot of Arsenal's Walcott in 82nd minutes thereby making the scoreline 1-1.

David De Gea again produced a wonderful save in the second half of Arsenal's Giroud close range weak strike. All the talks of David De Gea signing for Real Madrid obviously panic the crowd because he has been performing consistently throughout the season. And if not De Gea match saving saves during the entire season, United winning the fourth position in table for champion's league could have gone either way. I'm still hoping he will sign the new deal and stay with United for many years. It seems De Gea was injured during the match and he was substituted by Victor Valdes playing for the first time for United in the 74th minutes. And sadly, Valdes didn't have a clean sheet debut because of the deflected own goal from Blackett. Anyway, it was not his mistake.

I'm rating the team performance two and half out of five because the match should have been won but a draw is not a desirable result in Old Trafford especially for the fans.

The upcoming and the last match of the season for Manchester United is on 24 May 2015 against Hull City (Away match). The Match will start at 7:30 PM (IST).

Thank you. Have a good night!

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Crystal Palace, 2-1 , 09 May 2015”

United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling (McNair 84), Shaw (Evans 40), Blind, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Young, Rooney (Falcao 45).

Subs: Valdes, Pereira, Januzaj, Wilson.

Crystal Palace XI: Speroni, Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare, Jedinak (Lee Chung-yong 84 mins), Ledley (Puncheon 45), McArthur, Zaha (Chamakh 85'), Bolasie, Murray.

Subs: Hennessey, Kelly, Puncheon, Mutch, Lee, Chamakh, Campbell.

After three defeats in row, United's back to winning way but rather in a very unimpressive manner against resilient Crystal Palace. The first half display from United was not spectacular rather calculative in possession. Roneey played upfront as the lone striker for United until he was substituted in the second half by Falcao. It seems Rooney has some minor injury with his thigh and he was very uncomfortable before the end of first half.

It has been a revelation season for Ashley Young and he have since proven capable of leading United's attack in the absence of winger Angel Di Maria. Young was booed by the Palace fans during the entire match but he was unfazed by it. And he contributed enough for the penalty awarded in 18th minutes converted by Mata (1-0). The penalty may be controversial but it appears to be a right call from the referee point of view. Obviously, the decision was against Palace team but this is football where any decisions from the referee can go against the team or for the team.

The threat of Palace's duo Zaha and Bolaise was evident although United managed to neutralized in the first half. However, Luke Shaw was very unlucky to be injured once again and replaced in the 40th minutes by Johny Evans. Except for the penalty converted by Mata otherwise the first half play from United was uneventful. The second half of United was at the mercy of Crystal Palace  relentless attacks. United midfield players were overrun by Palace players. The experience of Michael Carrick was sorely missed in the second half.

Daley Blind is rather a good left back rather than a holding midfielder. His position in the second half was pretty awful because he was playing the ball behind the two center-backs for most of the second half. And it was very easy for Palace players to overrun the other midfield players, i.e., Herrera and Mata. I thought if Blind was more solid as a natural holding midfield then I don't think Palace would have create that many chances in the early second half. In fact, United was imbalance in defense as well as in attack in the second half. And Palace rightfully equalized the score 1-1 through a deflected free kick from Puncheon in the 58th minutes.

If not for Ashley Young trickery and pace, the second goal headed by Fellaini in the 78th minutes was far from making the scoreline 2-1 in favor of United. I felt sorry for Palace's full back Ward as he was receiving end of Young pace and trickery in the second half. And Fellaini was the man of the moment when United needed the win badly for Champion's league spot. Ashley Young and Fellaini deserved the every praises and the adulation from the traveling United fans because they didn't disappoint with their performance at all during the match.

David De Gea, I'm not sure how he managed to saves in the 71st minutes of Palace's Murray point blank shot on the goal with his palm. He is a top top goalkeeper and I won't be surprised if he signed the new deal of 200,000 pounds a week because he deserved it. Without De Gea, United would have lost nearly half of the matches they won throughout the season, and it is plain simple fact. De Gea is already emulating the greatness of United's goalkeeping greats Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van Der Sar. All he need to do is stay for a longer period to win trophies like them.

The defense of United is nearly clicking but then an established star defender is a must signing in the upcoming summer window to instill confidence in defending. Smalling is reliable with his current form but Jones and Evans are somehow still making the fans bite their finger nails. Valencia, though consistent with his pace but he is inconsistent as an original full back and that's is his weakness. In midfield area. Herrera is doing well but he needs the good support from a holding midfielder like Carrick otherwise he cannot play his game to full potential. It is tactical advantage for United as Carrick can open up spaces for creative midfield players like Herrera and Mata.

Louis Van Gaal as manager is the best prospect for United to challenge the title next season since the sacking of David Moyes. All he needs is a couple of good signings in the upcoming summer window and injury free first team squad. For the match against Crystal Palace, I will rate the performance of the team 3 out of 5. And the deserving man of the match is certainly Ashley Young despite the good performance of Fellaini and De Gea.

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S West Brom, 0-1, 02 May 2015”

Review on Manchester United performance versus West Brom:

United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, McNair, Blind, Mata, Herrera, Fellaini, Young, Rooney, Van Persie. Subs: Valdes, Blackett, Jones, Di Maria, Januzaj, Pereira, Falcao.

West Brom XI: Myhill, Dawson, McAuley, Olsson, Lescott, Brunt, Yacob, Gardner, Mulumbu, Fletcher, Berahino. Subs: Rose, Wisdom, Baird, Sessegnon, McManaman, Ideye, Anichebe.

Van Persie started the match after his injury lay off since early February. It was good to have him back but he will be very disappointed with his performance and for missing the penalty. I believed West Brom came to Old Trafford for a draw but they were damn lucky to run away with a win by a single goal deflected from free-kick in the 63rd minutes (0-1). After the lost against Chelsea, everything seems to be crumbling down for United and the players character are no where to be found. The lack of penetration in attacks despite having the majority of ball possession throughout the match is exactly the type of football without creativity.

Believe it or not! United enjoyed 80 percent of the ball possession throughout the match whereas it is only 20 percent for West Brom. Di Maria coming on as a substitute in the second half for Daley Blind makes no difference in the match. Instead, he wasted couple of ball possession resulting from his wayward crosses.

The first half from United was blunt when it comes to attacking with pace and tenacity. Holding on the ball inside West Brom area doesn't appear to trouble any of the West Brom defenders including their holding midfielders. It was only defense for West Brom with no intention to attack except from set piece and minimal counter attack. Of course! Ball possession is good for any forward players when you have the likes of Xavi and Andre Iniesta in the same team. It is because they can break down any type of defense mechanism. But I fear United emphasis on ball possession is doing no good when a natural goal scorer like Rooney is playing as midfielder and Herrera who normally play as attacking midfielder started the match as deep-lying midfielder.

The formation of United from the match may provide a balance in the team but it is also a disadvantage when it comes to attacking with flair. Michael Carrick is the balance to the team who can read the game. Unfortunately, there are no player from the current squad who can fill his position with ease.

I really do not want to give full credit to West Brom defense minded style of football. It is because United players did not perform to their caliber. The second half from United was not that different from the first half. And I don't understand whether the players have lost their confidence. And although Fellaini performance in second half gave a fresh breath of air but there was something extraordinary moment missing from all the players during the match. As a fan, I can keep on saying the lost was very unfortunate but that's not true. And as reviewer, I have to conclude with the fact that United is greatly in need of player like Ole Gunnar Solskjær who can instantly make a difference from losing scoreline to winning scoreline. Therefore, the performance of United players was extremely average and they all deserved the scoring mark of typical 2 out of 5.

After losing three matches in trot, United have an uphill task to maintain the 4th position in order to qualify for the next season Champions League. And with Liverpool lurking behind at 5th position with only four points gap, it is do or die situation for United with the 3 matches left to be played. United cannot afford to lose any of the remaining three games. Although the style of playing has improve a lot comparing with last season, it still not the same United under Sir Alex Ferguson. It is not about comparing the present team with the past team of United. But it is the high level of standard set by the past team under Sir Alex Ferguson is what the present players under the guidance of Van Gaal have to work on it. Rest assured, winning will become a habit.

I will rate 2 out 5 stars for the match performance from United players.

The upcoming match for Manchester United is on 09 May 2015 against Crystal Palace (Away match). And the Match will start at 10:00 PM (IST).

Thank you. Have a good night!

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Everton, 0-3, 27 April 2015”

Everton starting 11: Howard, Coleman, Stones, Jagielka, Baines, McCarthy, Barry, Lennon, Barkley, Osman, Lukaku. Subs: Robles, Kone, Mirallas, Naismith, Besic, Garbutt, Alcaraz.

Man Utd starting 11: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, McNair, Shaw, Blind, Mata, Ander Herrera, Fellaini, Young, Rooney. Subs: Di Maria, Falcao, Januzaj, van Persie, Valdes, Blackett, Pereira.

I was so angry with the performance from United players that it took me nearly two hours to cool myself down so that I can write this review with a sound mind. If I had written the review right after the match, I think I would have freely use all the "Seven dirty words" starting with from backline. Although United played well in terms of ball possesion and passing during the entire match, but the silly mistakes from the defenders contributing to goals for opponent team is not the match I enjoy watching.

The first goal scored by Everton in the 5th minute was a mistake of Valencia where he should have realized his disadvantage position if he goes for the tackle. Around 7 to 8 United players were still there in Everton box after Mata took the free kick from the right flank. After the freekick from Mata, I don't understand why Valencia have to battle for the clearance ball when he was only required to position himself better and wait for the defenders to come back. But once he lost the tackle, it was too easy for the Everton players to launch the counter attack.

In addition to Valencia mistake, McNair look like a spectator by letting Everton's McCarthy passed through him when he could have tackle to give himself a 50:50 chance. Even if he have miss the tackle and red-carded for fouling the opponent player, I wouldn't mind as a fan because he did the right thing for challenging and trying stop the opponent from scoring.

The second goal from Everton in the 35th minutes really boiled my blood. I just can't believe it, 3 consecutive corners given to Everton seemed like a friendly training session. Obviously, Everton have to make it count on the third attempt with the kind of easy opportunity provided. McNair and Valencia really let down the team because of their amateur display and silly mistakes. The third goal from Everton in the 74th minutes was completely the lack of understanding among the defence trio of Smalling, McNair and Valencia. The worst culprit from among the three was Valencia. The ball was still playable even though Eveton's Lukaku raised his hand admitting he was in offside position and halting his run. What I don't understand is why did they stop chasing the ball when the referee and the linesman has not given the signal. And Valencia, how did he not realize the ball was still playable for Mirallas who was lurking behind him. I'm really disappointed with the defenders lack of experience.

think the three goals conceded clearly shows the lack of experience in the defence unit. Although Valencia has the pace but his crosses from the right flank are very inefficient and unreliable. Damn it! He also need to learn how to kick the ball with left foot. His dependent on using only his right foot in every situation have become too predictable and the opponent players are able to stop him from delivering quality cross inside the box.

The players performance throughout the match was so pathetic and unbearable for me to watch till the end but credit goes to Everton solid defending and they clinically converted their chances. The performance of the United players was really apathetic except Young and Luke Shaw were the only better performer. Note that the same criticism also applies for David De Gea. As a top goalkeeper, I thought he could have at least save one of the three goals. Van Gaal system philosophy is already working but the players have to maintain their consistency at any cost.

Last but not the least, I really hate to see my favorite team losing to Everton because their fans are like way over the top and always making a point to say we are bigger than you even if we don't have world class players. And it really hurts because Everton last won the English title in 1986-87 whereas we have already won 13 times since their last title.

Overall, I'm rating 1 out of 5 stars for the team performance.

The upcoming match for Manchester United is on 02 May 2015 against West Brom in Old Trafford, Manchester. The Match will start at 10:00 PM (IST).

Thank you. Have a good night!

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Chelsea, 0-1, 18 April 2015”

My only feeling about superstition is that it's unlucky to be behind at the end of the game." Duffy Daugherty.

Chelsea XI: Courtois, Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Matic, Oscar, Fabregas, Hazard, Drogba. Chelsea subs: Cech, Luis, Cuadrado, Solanke, Mikel, Ramires, Willian.

United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, McNair, Shaw, Rooney, Mata, Ander Herrera, Fellaini, Young, Falcao. United subs: Da Silva, Van Persie, Valdes, Pereira, Blackett, Januzaj, Di Maria.

Even if Manchester United do not deserves to be a champion for this season but they did not deserved to lose the match. Even a draw won't suffice the performance of resurgent United against a much disciplined Chelsea defense. No offense to Mourinho tactics but his message was very clear to his two center backs, John Terry and Cahill, which is to stop United from poaching the area around Courtois. These two center backs literally never left their position for the entire 90 minutes of the match. It’s true that 80 percent of ball possession doesn’t win you a match unless a team score a goal and unfortunately it was the case for United. It was really frustrating to watch the match because right from the start, United’s intensity to attack Chelsea was very obvious whereas Chelsea was relying on counter attack clearly.

The first half from United was absolute brilliant in term ball possession and passing. Into the 8th minutes of the match, I thought Rooney has scored from Luke Shaw cross after a wonderful run from the left flank. That was a clear chance for United to take the lead. In case, if Rooney had scored, it could have initiated a change of tactic from Chelsea and will be force to drag their players out of position in order to level score. But once Chelsea’s Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the match in the 38th minutes (Score: 0-1), it was enough for Mourinho to execute his ultimate defensive tactics in order to win the match. The build up to Hazard goal is not without controversy as Falcao was fouled by John Terry in winning the ball. But then, the referee see it other way and the benefits of doubt seemed to be in favor of Chelsea.

Fellaini did help the team in creating space for Rooney and Herrera by drawing Chelsea’s Zouma and Ivanovic. I believe that was the major contribution to the team from his end. Anyway, he played well except he did not get a chance for aerial duel inside Chelsea’s box. I’m sure Van Gaal will continue to start him for the remaining 5 matches. After all, it takes two players to mark Fellaini and a much disciplined defense to stop him from scoring. And Chelsea’s players definitely executed their plan in stopping Fellaini despite his strong resistance to make a major impact in the match.

McNair and Smalling also played well as center backs. Although McNair was more comfortable foraying into Chelsea area and he managed two shots on target. Huge credit to Van Gaal for trusting the upcoming players from academy like McNair, Blackett and Perreira. Smalling is also improving but he needs to start playing some bold direct passes to strikers. Clearly, he had no idea about Falcao position during the match. Valencia, I just wish if his left foot is mobile as his right foot. Despite his consistency as a fullback, his cross needs to improve in order to have more impact in big match like former United player Gary Neville used to be from the same position. Luke Shaw will only keep on improving as his talent was the reason United signed him at the first place. He had a good game and I hope he cements his position in the starting eleven sooner. It will benefit the club as well as his teammates if he consistently play and manage to stay fit.

Rooney playing as midfield gives balance to the team in Carrick absence. However, Rooney playing as a midfielder also has a drawback for the team, i.e. his ability to score from striker position. He was very mobile right from the start and his passing was efficient throughout the match. But I would always prefer Rooney scoring goal as a striker than a box to box midfielder. His abilities to be able to play in any position is a blessing for a manager but I rather see Rooney as striker playing upfront and causing ll sort of threats to opposition defenders.

Juan Mata reception from the Chelsea fans was admirable and he truly deserved the standing ovation when he was substituted in the 70th minutes. It was quiet day from him and some of the corners he took were wasteful. Maybe, he was overwhelmed by the Chelsea fans reception. Angel Di Maria who eventually replaced Mata was also unable to up the tempo of the match with his pace and skills. Anyway, it is good Manchester United spot in next season Champion’s League is almost sealed. Ander Herrera is definitely proving in every matches and cementing his place in the starting line-up. Sorry to mention about his diving in the last minute of the match although it was an attempt to win the match at any cost. Obviously, the DNA of United is all about winning but I hope he rather commits a professional foul on opposition player who has a clear shot on goal. Anyway, his dedication and passing in the match are not to be left out just because he dived.

Ashley Young had a decent match although his attempt to create chance was minimal which definitely had an impact with Falcao performance. Falcao started the match but with only three attempted shots on target throughout the match. The first shot was deflected by Cahill and the second shot with his left foot hitting the bar instead. And lastly, his left foot shot on target from Fellaini cross was brilliantly blocked by Cahill. At the end of the day, the striker score goal with assist from either side of the width area or from middle. Unfortunately, even though the team played well, Chelsea defended too well.

Van Gaal formation of 4-1-4-1 undoubtedly created problems for Chelsea but once they took the lead, they park a double decked bus in front their goalkeeper. Tactically, the formation used by Van Gaal was an absolute remedy to Mourinho defensive style. In the end, United was defeated and the 3 points is all that matters to Mourinho.

For the team performance, I’ll rate 3 out of 5. The next upcoming match for Manchester United is on 26 April 2015 against Everton. The match will start at 06:00 PM (IST).

Thank you.

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Manchester City, 4-2, 12 April 2015”

It’s Manchester derby match!

United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Blind, Carrick, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Young, Rooney. United subs: Valdes, Rafael, Rojo, McNair, Januzaj, Di Maria, Falcao.

City XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany (C), Demichelis, Clichy, Fernandinho, Toure, Navas, Milner, Silva, Aguero. City subs: Caballero, Mangala, Kolarov, Fernando, Nasri, Lampard, Dzeko.

United started the match in a tattering fashion for the first 10th minutes. In fact, in the very 3rd minutes of the match, City’s winger Navas run was undetected by Blind on the right flank produced a shot saved by De Gea. Encouraged by the lousy noise from the stand of City’s fans, the players also pressed harder and eventually took the lead in the 7th minutes scored by Aguero. Score 0-1. It was an easy tap in goal for Aguero with the cross provided by David Silva. It was kind of scary how City started the match despite their recent fluctuating forms. The flurry of run-ins with pace was the main threat for United.

After 10th minutes into the match, United became more organized in defense and clinical with the passes although City’s still pressed on. Gradually, United’s attacking flairs and tempo starts to improve with the main intent to equalize the score before halftime. I have to mention this again; the focal point of United’s season is the revival of Fellaini, including Mata and Young. But then, Fellaini seemed to make more impact and it was quiet noticeable in the match. Can you believe it? De Gea goal kick to Fellaini, Young high ball cross to Fellaini, Valencia high ball cross to Fellaini, Mata high ball cross to Fellaini, etc., and today he was truly one hell of a player.

The first goal for United’s started with Jones dangerous back pass to De Gea. De Gea anticipated the dangerous back pass, and he swiftly came out from the box clearing the ball straight to Fellaini with City’s Zabaleta challenging it. Without any surprise, the aerial duel was won by Fellaini and he passed it on to Herrera who have gained some free space on the left flank delivering a beautiful cross inside City’s box. Young initially connect the cross but it was blocked by Clichy. Fortunately for Young, the ball bound back to his direction from Clichy’s body and guided the ball into the net to level the goal 1-1 in the 14th minutes.

After Young has leveled the score for United, the players also became more comfortable with the ball possession and passing. And also, the threat of City’s pressing mode was neutralized. In the 27th minutes of the 1st first half, Fellaini scored from a header with an assist provided from Young to make the score 2-1. The build up to the second goal was beautifully crafted by Blind and Young. I personally thought City’s defender Kompany should have been sent-off for the high boot tackle on to Blind. Unfortunately, he was shown only the Yellow card.

In early second half play, City’s goalkeeper Hart produced an outstanding save of Rooney indirect free kick. Both the team played an attacking football although United’s look more comfortable and also the score line (2-1) reducing the players pressure. In the 67th minutes of the match, Mata scored from Rooney pass to make the score line 3-1. Again, the build up to third goal started from Fellaini. Without any doubts, he was outstanding throughout the match as if the team style of playing revolved around him. I guessed everyone will now understand the word “balance” propagated by team boss Van Gaal during the start of the season.

Who would have thought of Smalling scoring the 4th goal for United in the 73th minutes making the score line 4-1? Well, he scored and the score line is unbelievable. I guessed the Smalling goal maybe the redemption for the red card and the subsequent sent off in previous derby encounter on 2 November 2014. Anyway, it was a good header goal from him. United healthy score line of 4-1 toned down the tempo of the match. Unfortunately, in the last 10 minutes of the match, Carrick was injured prompting him to leave the team with only ten players in the field. It was really unfortunate for the team as the three substitution quota has been used on Mata, Jones and Fellaini. All these three players substituted received a standing ovation from the crowd. And the players coming on from the bench were Angel Di Maria, Falcao and Rojo.

Since the match have been already won, expectation from the substitute players seemed like a move to shore up defense. In the 89th minutes, City’s Aguero added another goal to make it 4-2 when United was playing only with ten players as Carrick was injured and had already left the field. Overall, United team produced one of the best performance of the season. Obviously, the team performance proved the players are in sync with Van Gaal philosophy. The target for the team is to keep winning and maintain the chance of winning the title mathematically hoping Chelsea to drop points… :) Clearly, the deserving man of the match is Fellaini. And I’m sure everyone who have watched the match will agree.

For the team performance, I will rate 4 out of 5. The next upcoming match for Manchester United is on 18 April 2015 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, London. The match will start at 10:00 PM (IST).

Thank you. Have a good night!

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Aston Villa 3-1, 05 April 2015”

"Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Tom Landry.

After a week of International football, finally it’s matchday for EPL. And today, Manchester United is hosting Aston Villa at Old Trafford (The theatre’s of dream), Manchester.

United Starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Blind, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Young, Rooney.

United subs: Valdes, Rafael, McNair, A Pereira, Januzaj, Di Maria, Falcao.

Villa Starting XI: Guzan, Hutton, Okore, Clark, Lowton, Delph, Sanchez, N’Zogbia, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Benteke.

Villa subs: Given, Vlaar, Bacuna, Cole, Gil, Baker, Grealish.

The first half performance from Manchester United seemed like the reminiscent of old Manchester United style of playing recorded in video clips which are available on YouTube. 6-7 months ago, we were complaining the lack of penetration from this current team. And today, there is no complain except the players didn’t finish the chances they created. It is a huge turn around for Van Gaal philosophy and is starting to click every the team has the ball. Herrera is a gem and United is lucky to have him. Scoring the opening goal (1-0) in the 42nd minutes was the result of relentless attacks with pace. I thought Rooney was clearly fouled in the 4th minute. But it seems Rooney did not do enough to hold on his feet.

In the second half, the players seems exhausted unlike the first half vibrancy. No doubt, most of the players starting the match just returned back from their respective International duty. Fellaini clearly look exhausted. In fact, he played two competitive international matches for his country. Despite the fatigue, Fellaini gave a decent performance and I'm sure he will in the starting eleven for the upcoming matches. He just need a few days of rest to recover from the fatigue. Quiet rightly, he was substituted in the 77th minutes of the match with Falcao. Unfortunately Falcao did not have enough game time to score and add in his goal tally for this season.

Although, the team still have majority of the ball possession in 2nd half, the pace of the game slowed down with couple of errors offering an opportunity to Villa’s frontline attack. The supporters ‘uh’ and ‘no’ expression were in unison when the some of the player make back passes to De Gea. It implies the supporters only want to see attacking football match minus back passes. However, slowing down the tempo was necessary for Manchester United in order to control the match. Rooney scored the second goal and it was just magical. The way he control of the ball which assisted by Maria from the width play was simply phenomenon. And then, the half volley shot into the net in 78th minutes proved that Sir Alex Ferguson was right in saying, “Rooney will always get you a goal.” Making the score line 2-0 was a key moment for United to maintain the lead.

Lo! 60 seconds later, Villa’s Benteke scored from a corner kick ball making the score 2-1. Rooney intensity throughout the match justified Van Gaal decision to appoint him as captain. I really doubt if England will produce a player of his talent again in the future or even now.

In the defending unit consisting of Valencia, Jones, Rojo and Blind supported the team in attacking and effectively able to return to their respective base on time. Jones performance was good but he will always be prone to injury with his style of playing. I thought he need to be more technical than to be physical. If he wants to play every week for United, he need to start looking at the video clips of Paolo Maldini. Rojo should be fine; he will be good with any partner and he has the strength and the character. His attempt in the first half produced a good saves from Villa’s goalkeeper Guzan.

Blind seemed like a home grown player of United although he is product of Ajax academy. His versatility in any position is always an advantage and he links well with Ashley effortlessly. He was always a threat for the Villa’s defender as his crosses from the width area hardly missed the penalty area. Valencia performance was good except his delivery were not up to the mark. Anyway, we now know why Van Gaal prefers to start Valencia rather than Rafael. I think it is his consistency, stamina and the ability to overrun opponent full back.

Since the beginning of the season, David De Gea have been winning match after match singlehandedly for United. Unfortunately, he committed a mistake misjudging Villa’s Benteke strike. Obviously, every best goalkeeper are not perfect and they also make mistake. The good thing about De Gea is that he doesn't let himself defined by the error committed. Instead, he will come back even more stronger. Mata, Carrick, Fellaini and Mata, dictates the flow of United’s attacks and all these four were very efficient with their passing. Although Carrick mistimed a couple of pass but his calm demeanor in the field was very important.

Ashley Young has been very reliable from the left flank every time he starts in a match. The 2nd half substitution of Young in the 70th minutes for Angel Di Maria has nothing to do with his performance. He played very well and nearly scored a goal missing the net by a yard. If not for the injury, he is up there with the likes of Hazard, Costa, De Gea and Kane who are vying for the PFA player of the season. Van Gaal was right to substitute him in the second half and the upcoming match against Manchester City played a role with the substitution.

Mata and Herrera are like yin and yang. They have a very good understanding of their positions as well as their vision of play. Herrera was the stand-out performer of the match. His impromptu tricks and the ability to find space are admirable throughout the match. He hardly loses the ball although his physical structure is nowhere near to Fellaini. The goal from him in the 92 minutes bolted the three points for Manchester United. The final score line of 3-1 is convincing. Without any doubt, the man of the match goes to Ander Herrera for his two goals and for the solid performance throughout the match.

Tactical wise, the formation for 4-2-3-1 is providing positive results for the team and the players were able able to speed up the tempo of the match. All it need is a consistency from the players, and I'm sure United can easily qualify for the Champions league. Of course, Van Gaal experience is vital and the substitution of Fellaini and Ashley Young demonstrated his acumen in managing in-form players.

Overall, I’m giving 3 and half stars out of five for the team performance. The upcoming match for Manchester United is on 12 April 2015 against Manchester City (Derby match) in Old Trafford, Manchester. The match will start at 8:30 PM (IST).

Thank you. Have a good night!

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Liverpool, 2-1, 22 March, 2015"

"I can't stand Liverpool, I can't stand the people, I can't stand anything to do with them." Gary Neville (Former Manchester United player).

Woo Hoo! It is Manchester United versus Liverpool, the biggest rivalry in English competition!
United Starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Young, Rooney. United subs: Valdes, Rafael, Rojo, Di Maria, Januzaj, A Pereira, Falcao.

Liverpool Starting XI: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Allen, Henderson (C ), Lallana, Moreno, Coutinho, Sterling, Sturridge. Liverpool subs: Jones, Johnson, Toure, Gerrard, Leiva, Lambert, Balotelli.

My review on the Manchester United team:

Confidence display from the United players with an intent to attack was the highlights from the first half play. Fellaini, again, was the focal point of attack from United leading to the Mata’s goal. His ability to win ball and hold on is his asset. Liverpool couple of times were threatening with their counter attacks but it was United first half. The win against Tottenham last week has laid the foundation for Manchester United to finish off the season in a high note. The goal in the 14th minute was the outcome of good telepathy between Herrera and Mata. What an assist from Herrera, and Mata guiding the ball to the very corner of the net? United leads 1-0 till the end of first half.

Ashley Young was quiet for most of match but some good interception in the defense shows he still contributes in the match. He was rightly substituted in the second half by Di Maria. But the curious case of Angel Di Maria will be delight for the entire journalist reporting for the match with his half hearted performance in the second half. Anyway the assist leading to Mata second goal in the 59th minutes was a class. But credit goes to Mata for his acrobatic left footed goal to make the score 2-0 for United. I'm pretty sure the goal will be top contender for the goal of the season.

Herrera was really good till the first half but the steam reduced a bit in the second half. And as Liverpool has nothing lose in the match with Gerrard already red carded for stamping on him in the 46th minutes; I thought he and Carrick were under pressure for most of the second half with the Liverpool players pressing high better than they were in first half with 11 players. Maybe, the saying is true, wounded tiger are more dangerous. He was taken off in the 81th minutes for Falcao, and he needed the rest.

Rooney did not contribute much as expected and was quiet awful with some of his passes. There was no communication between him and Di Maria when they both have the opportunity to finish the match. Missing the penalty in the final minutes of the injury time summed up his performance. I thought he could have given the chance to score from the spot to Mata who was on a hat-trick but I don't know why he didn't offer the spot to Mata. I hope he gets better in the upcoming matches because the spot for 2nd and 3rd in the table is wide open with the win for United today.

Fellaini deserved a standing ovation from the travelling fans as well as those watching from home. His offense and defense has a tremendous impact in the game. In the second half, when Liverpool got their first corner of the match and a couple of corners later on, he was always there to clear the ball from the danger area. It is nice see him contributing a lot in the match like this. For me, he is not far behind Mata for the man of the match trophy. We really need him to show his consistency for the upcoming difficult matches.

The defense duo of Jones and Smalling was better in the first half but it can still improve with much needed confidence in passing and control. But in the second half, it shows the lack of experience even though Liverpool was already down to 10 men. Unfortunately, Sturridge took advantage and scored in the 69th minutes to make the score line 2-1. They need a lot of improvement with the important matches coming up. But also, the good news for United is Marcos Rojo will be available for the next match after making a cameo in the end of the final injury time. De Gea, as usual was effective with his goal kicks and distribution. He doesn't have much to do with saving in this match except he was caught out for the Sturridge goal. Otherwise, always calm and composed in the match. That’s what we need as a United goalkeeper.

Mata is the standout player from the match for Manchester United. Efficient with the passes and clinical with his two goals summed up his performance in the match. Deserved a hat trick if only Rooney had offer the spot-kick won in the injury time by Blind after the 90th minutes. Mata exploited Moreno very well for his poor display and ultimately scoring the two goals for United. But the second goal was a absolute beauty and his confidence is really high at this moment which should benefit United for the remaining matches. Valencia was good by offering support to Mata in attack but I expect him to be more offensive from the width area otherwise Rafael can do the same job as him. With his pace, he could have made more impact in the match if he has few crosses with his counterpart Moreno clearly not at his best. Whereas his opposite partner Blind offer a lot from the width play when Young couldn't make enough crosses.

Tactical wise, Van Gaal’s philosophy of playing his style of football is starting to pay off. The formation of 4-2-3-1 is comfortable for the players to enjoy their natural game. It just need a little bit of more efforts from the players to challenge for the title next season or may be even this season if Chelsea loses 2-3 matches… :) For the Manchester United display, I will give 3 out of 5 stars. For Gerrard, it is still zero EPL and a sad ending to his Liverpool matches against Manchester United, their biggest rivalry... :)

The next upcoming match for Manchester United is on 4th April 2015 (Saturday) at 7:30 PM (IST) in Old Trafford, Manchester.

Thank you.

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Tottenham Hotspurs, 3-0, 15 March 2015”

"Sports do not build character. They reveal it." Heywood Broun.

United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Blind, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini, Young, Rooney. United subs: Lindegaard, Rafael, Blackett, A Pereira, Januzaj, Falcao, Wilson.

Spurs XI: Lloris (c), Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose; Bentaleb, Mason; Chadli, Eriksen, Townsend; Kane. Spurs subs: Vorm, Chiriches, Davies, Dembele, Lamela, Paulinho, Adebayor.

Bravo! What a privilege match to watch and to end my weekend with a smile! I was dreading a result of draw or losing by single goal but instead the match excellently exceeded my expectation by the half time. The spirit of the team was fantastic and it really looks like the old good days of Sir Alex but the credit goes to Van Gaal. The standout player from the match was Fellaini once again. He is enjoying his better form of his career and deservedly the man of the match for me. While Rooney, Mata, Carrick, Ashley Young were not that behind Fellaini performance in the match. De Gea as always is the best player from the backline. Besides his goalkeeping talents, his accurate passing and distribution of the ball from goal kicks are comparable to Scholes style of passing.

The defense is also gaining confidence day by day and it will be really beneficial if it keeps on improving with 9 games to go. Once Rojo returns, the defense should be fine with Valencia as right back. Valencia gave a committed performance running up and down the flank. He is growing better and better as an alternative right back who can also join attack with his pace and crossing ability. With the kind of performance he displayed in the match, Van Gaal will start him again in the upcoming match versus Liverpool without any doubt.

The importance of Michael Carrick to the team was instantly noticeable. He has that genius moment in creating assist with his accurate passing and distribution. His position as central midfielder gives a lot of protection to defense. The 9th minute assist from him leading to the Fellaini goal was simply beautiful. Fellaini left footed shot of on the ball was angled perfectly cruising into the corner of the net giving no chance to Lloris. Tottenham’s under Pochettino have been performing well since the end of 2014. Today, the Tottenham’s player in the field looks like one of the club from the bottom of the table fighting for relegation. But the credit should go to Manchester United players pressing high as soon as the match started.

Again Fellaini played a part with the second goal coming from Carrick header in 19th minutes after the corner kick was taken. Since the day I started reviewing Manchester United matches played, I have stated that Fellaini is always a threat in the box. His aerial ability in the center as well as in box gives advantage to the team in holding on the ball. Rooney, it is a simple fact, he is a natural goal scoring striker. He has the strength, pace and tenacity of British forward players but the only difference with the other strikers is he is a winner and an unselfish leader. Once he defeats the opponent defenders, Rooney rarely miss a shot on the goal. And that was it! The third goal came from him in the 34th minute after playing the ball through the two defenders.

Mata gave a performance deserving the standing ovation from the fans in Old Trafford. He played very well in the absence of Angel Di Maria. The upcoming match against Liverpool will be a litmus test for both the players Angel Di Maria and Mata on who will be on the starting eleven till the end of this season. Injured Persie have been a blessing for the team to change it strategy by building up attack from the backline and central midfielder to Young, Mata and Rooney. It has also benefitted by Herrera who is also playing well from midfield position. Herrera physical appearance may look small as a footballer but he is not afraid of going for the challenge and tackle. He is like a lemon rather a technically talented player.

In the second half, the team comfortably controlled the match. The substitute appearance from Pereira, Rafael and Falcao in the 2nd half has nothing to offer as the match was already won in the 1st half. In the final minutes of the match, Tottenham’s Harry Kane goal bound shot was beautifully saved by De Gea keeping another clean sheet to his name. This guy concentration throughout the match is very admirable. As a fan, I just hope a new super-duper contract is offered to him.

I’m rating 4 out of 5 for the solid performance from the team. The next upcoming match for Manchester United is on 22 March 2015 against Liverpool FC to be played in Anfield, Liverpool. The match will start at 7:00 PM (IST).

Thank you. And have a good night sleep!

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Arsenal, 1-2, FA cup Quarter Final, 10 March, 2015"

(Pre-match) It's 12.55 AM and I'm waiting to watch the FA quarter final match between Manchester United and Arsenal. The match will start at 1:15 AM IST.

Manchester United starting eleven are: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Fellaini, Young, Rooney. Subs: Valdes, Rafael, Jones, Carrick, Januzaj, Mata, Falcao.

Arsenals starting eleven are: Szczesny, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Sanchez, Welbeck. Subs: Martinez, Gibbs, Chambers, Ramsey, Giroud, Walcott, Akpom.

(Review log time: 4:00 AM) The match has ended and I hope most of you have also enjoyed the match although United lost 1-2 with the winner goal scored by former United player Welback. The first half display was one of the best first half since the 5-3 lost to Leicester City in September 2014. The intensity and pace of United attack in the first half was good. And right after the Arsenal first goal by Monreal, the goal from Rooney was absolutely one those United moments hitting back immediately.

But all the attacking display of first half was undone by the substitution in the second half. Ander Herrera replacement by Carrick was not a smart move from Van Gaal. With Carrick, you can hold the ball in centre effectively but it affected the pace of United attack. I thought if United were leading then Carrick introduction would have justified. Herrera is one kind of midfielder who lurks behind the forward players assisting the attack. Losing Herrera position in second half benefited the Arsenal defensive midfielders as they can focussed more on Fellaini movement.

Obviously when you are playing attacking football, the opponent will always go for the counter-attack. And that was the only real threat from Arsenal. The cautious approach from Van Gaal in second half definitely change the tempo of the match favoring Arsenal. In addition, the sending off of Angel Di Maria was a stab right through the heart with 20 minutes to go. And I do not think he was diving desperately although it was a needless yellow card from the referee. Of course, there was some slight contact from Ramsey but not substantial. But the reaction of Maria against the referee at that moment was definitely uncalled for. I’m really sorry for him and I hope he will come back stronger.

Valencia did well monitoring in Alexis Sanchez movement and he comfortably kept Alexis at bay throughout the match. In fact Van Gaal was right to say Valencia was the best player in the field except for the error. It was just a terrible back pass leading to Welbeck scoring the winning goal for Arsenal. This is the very reason why the fans are right in booing the back passes. David De Gea, as always kept United in the game till the last minute. The saves of Cazorla and Sanchez are definitely world class and he is already one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now.

Game after game, Fellaini is proving to be a good signing for United. For me, he is back to his best and also the deserving man of the match even though United lost. Every time when the ball is in the air, I always see him winning and holding on to the ball pretty good. He would be really disappointed with the result. However, his compatriot Adnan Januzaj still needs to improve a lot as a winger. He was ineffective from the width play and deserved the booking for stimulation inside the Arsenal box when he could have gone for the shot.

Rooney did OK and scored the equalizer in first half although I still think two strikers up front would have change the game with Fellaini playing just behind them. Ashley Young and De Gea are the only consistent players whereas the defenders needs improvement and they pace up their performance to defend as one unit. The good news is the players are gelling as team when passing the ball and starting to play the attacking football we as a United fans enjoy.

Although disappointed with the quarter final lost as a fan but we can still finish better than Arsenal in the Premier League table and qualify for the Champions league 2015-16. I'm always optimistic as a fan and I'm sure the players will not let down the fans.

I will give the team performance 3 stars out of 5 despite the lost. The next match is on 15 March 2015 (9:30 PM IST). Manchester United V/S Tottemham at Old Trafford.

Thank you.

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Newcastle, 1-0, 05 March, 2015"

"Slow and steady win the race". Right now, I can say Manchester United are almost back to it default settings. Although the road to win the EPL title is still way ahead but it seems to be on the right track. The match against Newcastle showed us the glimpse of old United style of football, attack, attack, attack and win the match at any cost. United may not be title contenders this season but the slow and steady progress of Van Gaal foundation on the team is starting to take it shape. I've been a critic of Van Gaal however the last two matches (including Newcastle) are worthy to be noted. The starting eleven for United were, David De Gea, Marcos Rojo, Johny Evans, Valencia, Blind, Herrera, Ashley Young, Angel Di Maria, Fellaini, and Rooney.

Tactical wise, the formation appears to be the conventional 4-2-3-1. Rooney was playing as lone striker supported by Fellaini as 2nd striker and occasionally as attacking midfielder. Young and Maria on the right and left flank respectively, and Marcos Rojos and Valencia joining the attack from behind. Herrera and Blind on central midfield, and of course, De Gea as goalkeeper..:) It is kind of lame from my side to mentioned De Gea as goalkeeper. Falcao was on the bench, with that kind of qualities he has as striker, I felt sorry for him. Anyway as it was an away game, I thought the decision was right to bench him.

In the first half, United enjoyed the majority of the ball possession and occasionally creating some good chances from the right and left flank. Kudos to Evans! he has improved a lot comparing with the recent match against Sunderland(in reference to back pass). He made fewer back pass to De Gea only when required. United were lucky to escape a clear penalty for Newcastle in the early first half. As referees are making mistake one after another, it is pointless to point out to the incompetence FA officials.

Rooney as a striker is always a threat because he is a real striker and I'm very happy that he is back to his original position. The few chances he got in the first half showed us why he should always be played as striker. I thought he should have scored one or two in the first half. It's OK as Rooney is still one of those players who have the ability the change the match anytime. It was because of his pace and strength which enable him to pressure the Newcastle defenders leading to the 89th minute goal. What a cool finish from Ashley Young! For me, Young has been very consistent this season alongside De Gea. As usual, De Gea produced a wonderful save of Cisse header in the dying minutes of the match. Statistically, De Gea won 2 points for the team once again. And also, the point blank save of Coloccini's header across goal was admirable and definitely proved he is one of the best goalkeepers. He is a rare gem and I hope he will sign the new contract soon.

Fellaini did OK with his role supporting in attack with Rooney including midfield and backtracking to win tackles. Herrera and Blind partnership is turning out to be 'hit' like a low budget movie. The centre back duo of Smalling and Evans was good although it still has a huge scope for improvement. Angel Di Maria did well in the first half and I believe he is working hard to regain his form. Although he was substituted in the 2nd half, I'm sure his first half performance will give him some confidence in the upcoming matches. I always believe 'form is temporary and class is permanent'. As a fan, I've never doubted his talent and ability.

Overall, it was good game for us as a fan and I believe we can still improve better. And as for the review on the match, I'm rating 3 out of 5.

The upcoming Manchester United game is against Arsenal on 10 March, 2015 (01:15 AM IST), FA Cup 2014-15 Quarterfinal.

Thank you.

"Review on Manchester United performance V/S Sunderland, 2-0, 28 Feb 2015"

It has been a while since I wrote my first blog and deleted it. The other night I was writing a comment on Daily Mail online Football section which I've been following since 2013. My brother saw my comment I posted on the Manchester United game versus Sunderland. He asked me, "Why don't you start writing blog?". I said to him, it is just a hobby that I enjoyed writing after every United game. However he countered me back and said, if writing comment on Daily Mail online is your hobby, "why not write it again on the blog and share it?” I thought it can be a good idea, and here am I.

I'll start with the match between Manchester United and Sunderland played on 28 February 2015. I enjoyed the match that night watching from my Samsung TV [it is not LCD.. ]. Anyway, about the match, I would say that this was the better performance from United in 2015. I was more impressed with Chris Smalling performance although Rooney took the limelight with his two goals. De Gea as always proved he is one of the most United player this season. His save in the early fist half was really good although Sunderland attacks don’t trouble him much after the save. With Persie injured, Falcao started the match and proved that he is still trying to regain his old scoring form. Sadly, no goal from him but his well timed control of the ball to create chance of scoring and winning us the penalty in 2nd half was the game changing moment. Rooney scored from the spot and it was a good spot kick. In the build up to the penalty, it was unfortunate that Sunderland Wes Brown was sent off by the referee instead of John O'Shea.

Coming back to Smalling performance, my rating for him will be 9/10. If he had scored, it would have been perfect. I guess he gave the best performance in his career with Utd. If he stays fit and remain consistent with his performance, I doubt Ed Woodward would shop for defender in the upcoming summer window. But still, we may need one established centre back to replace Johny Evans. I don't have any personal grudge against Evans but he is a calamity waiting to happen. And his performance in the match appears to justify the 'calamity' tag. He is clearly in-confidence and hence the dozen of back passes to De Gea. If United receive bid from other clubs in the range of £ 1-3 millions, it will be like winning a jackpot. He is just not the type of defender United can rely week in and out.

Angel Di Maria was substituted with Januzaj after the end of first half. I'm felt sorry for Angel but it was a right decision from Van Gaal. He is not the same Angel with the high standard he set for himself in the start of the season. And with Liverpool lurking behind us in the Table, I hope he regain his form very soon. Januzaj has a good game and I'm happy the decision to bring him on was justified. Although Januzaj was selfish at times but his ability to penetrate Sunderland defense speak volumes of his talent. I hope he will make more assist in upcoming matches. Valencia and Rojo, both of them has a good game playing as right back and left back respectively. They both were efficient going forward as well as tracking back.

Ashley Young is clearly the star player for United this season. He is in great form and I'm very happy for him. I was also one of those fans who criticized him badly during his career start with United. He has proved his worth as well as Sir Alex trusts in his ability. But kudos to Van Gaal in helping Young brings out his best form for the team. He did well in the match and there were couple of good long range shots only to miss the net. The midfield duo of Herrera and Blind was pretty good. We had the majority of the ball possession and both of them were good with the distribution. I expect Herrera to create more through ball assist with his creativity in the upcoming matches. Fellaini was brought on for Falcao. With Sunderland already playing with 10 men, he did not make much impact in the match. But still then, he is very important player for United in order to qualify for Champion league spot.

Last but not the least, the formation of 4-4-2 is the only formation where United can play their best attacking football. I can understand Van Gaal preference but since we are fighting for the Champions League spot and it is getting trickier with Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottemham and Southamptom also in the race. I'd rather go for this 4-4-2 formation where he can get the best form from his players and get the results. Of course, his philosophy does matter but a club like Manchester United is not easy to tame. It is like a wild horse where you have to be patient and astute. And to let it go by itself making sure it does not go astray. I'm sure by next season we will be contender for the title once again. And if I were him, I would not want to become the enemy of Old Trafford crowds.

The upcoming Manchester United match is on 5 March 2015(01:15 AM IST, Thursday) against Newcastle at St. James' Park.

Thank you.
